Mumbai, Mumbai,,–– As the second time in a row, the National Drug Authority (NDA) has approved the sale of Sildenafil Citrate, the generic equivalent of Viagra, to authorized dealers of Indian pharmacies in the region.
As the first-line treatment for erectile dysfunction, the drug has been approved by the NDA for sale in the U. S. as well as for the treatment of pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH).
In the world of medicine, sildenafil citrate is the most commonly used drug for treatment of erectile dysfunction. This drug is known as Viagra and is prescribed for men to treat pulmonary arterial hypertension by relaxing blood vessels in the lungs, allowing them to exercise.
On the other hand, Viagra works by inhibiting an enzyme called phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5). This enzyme is responsible for regulating blood flow in the penis and helps to achieve and maintain an erection.
“The use of sildenafil citrate in patients with pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) for erectile dysfunction is a common practice, and it is important to note that the drug can cause side effects like headache, flushing, and indigestion.”
However, there are also some side effects associated with the drug such as, low blood pressure, hypotension, fainting, chest pain, and fainting. Patients should be aware of the possible risks before taking the drug, especially with the use of other ED drugs.
Sildenafil citrate, with the active ingredient Sildenafil, is classified as a phosphodiesterase type-5 (PDE5) inhibitor. This means it blocks PDE5, leading to a greater relaxation of the blood vessels in the penis.
“Sildenafil citrate should not be used in patients with cardiovascular disease or high blood pressure, as it can increase the risk of developing high-grade inflammation in the penis. In addition, sildenafil citrate should not be used in patients who are allergic to sildenafil or are taking any other medications, including other erectile dysfunction drugs. These drugs should also be avoided or restricted to patients with the following conditions:
“In the event that you have a condition that makes it hard to get an erection, it is important to discuss the situation with your healthcare provider first,” added Gupta. “Sildenafil citrate can cause dizziness and fainting, which can be a concern for patients. If these side effects persist, then it is advisable to consult a doctor.”
Indian Drugs and Chemicals Ltd. (ID& C) will manufacture the drug from sildenafil citrate in the United States and Europe.
